SEOUL -- In an effort to speed up the commercialization of its technology, Lunit, a promising Seoul-based venture company developing software for medical data analysis and interpretation with artificial intelligence and deep learning technology, partnered with LG CNS, an information technology service provider.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday on cooperation in using artificial intelligence in public health. Through open innovation, they will push for the rapid analysis of medical x-ray images through AI on the cloud platform.

Lunit's software in processing medical imaging data helps physicians make accurate, consistent, and efficient clinical decisions. Lunit Insight, the company’s chest X-ray medical image detection assistant software, received approval from a state watchdog in South Korea this year. It plans to win approval for a variety of lung diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and pneumothorax.

If Lunit's technology is applied to the public healthcare area, the analysis of lung disease will be done quickly within 15 seconds.

In a joint statement, LG CNS promised to provide better public health services based on IT business capabilities in the public sector. The company provides information technology services including consulting, system integration, network integration, and IT outsourcing.

"Through cooperation between the two companies, we will try to expand early diagnosis and treatment by using medical AI in places where the medical burden is great," Lunit CEO Suh Beom-seok was quoted as saying.
